The AI ORA team is pleased to announce that since January 2024 it has been represented on the British Standards Institution’s Artificial Intelligence Committee ART/1 by Dr Irina Marsh. The BSI is the UK’s national standards body tasked with developing British Standards that underpin digital trust and innovation. Committee ART/1 mirrors the work of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42 and CEN/CENELEC JTC 21 to influence both international and European AI standardisation; Dr Marsh’s role ensures UK SMEs benefit from direct input into these critical frameworks.

Dr Marsh contributes her ethics and responsible AI expertise to ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42 WG 3 on Trustworthiness; this group addresses transparency, explainability, reliability, security and privacy. She also sits on CEN/CENELEC JTC 21 WG 4, focusing on foundational and societal aspects of AI to support the forthcoming EU AI Act. Her membership across these committees highlights her ability to guide organisations towards compliance with emerging legal and ethical requirements.
