Madalina Botan is an Associate Professor at the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (SNSPA) in Bucharest, where she also serves as a senior researcher affiliated with the Center for Research in Communication. While her broader academic interests lie in media and communication studies, her current research focuses on online disinformation and the monitoring of the newly strengthened EU Code of Practice on Disinformation.

She is the coordinator of the EDMO-affiliated Bulgarian-Romanian Observatory on Disinformation (BROD) (https://brodhub.eu/) and contributes to the IPIE Scientific Panel on Indexing the Information Environment (https://www.ipie.info/team/madalina-botan). Professor Botan also serves on the Management Committees of two EU COST Actions and coordinates research for the WHAT-IF Horizon Europe Project (https://what-if-horizon.eu/).

She has authored numerous studies and books on media effects and political communication. Her most recent co-authored book, Media and Political Engagement: The Impact of Information Diets on Civic and Political Participation, explores how today’s information ecosystem shapes democratic behavior (https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-031-41954-6).
